Mascherano: It's difficult to leave when Barcelona want you to stay

Javier Mascherano will continue at Barcelona for at least one more season. This is what the player has revealed in an interview with Argentine newspaper Ole, where he made it clear he’s happy at the club, although he also admitted he’d like to feel more valued.

“Barça have let me know they have no intention of letting me leave. They are really happy with me. And when a club, even more so this club, put these conditions on you, it’s difficult to leave. Above all keeping in mind that I’m not going to force anything. No-one deserves that,” Mascherano said.

The Argentine reiterated that he doesn’t like to “cling on to anything”, as he said in an interview a few days ago. “There’s always the possibility to leave, but also to stay,” he added.

Mascherano insisted that he has no complaints about the way Barça have treated him. However, he once again alluded to some issues which have made him reconsider certain things.

He added: “I have a contract with Barça and I say the same as Robert Fernandez [said]. We have spoken since January, not just professionally, but also personally. With all the people [at the club] I have a great relationship, also with the directors.

“They know what I think. They have treated me well, I have no complaints. Even though sometimes things happen which make you reconsider things.

“In any case, I won’t do anything that would cloud my relationship with Barça. It’s always been really good and the day I leave the club I don’t want to go with a bad taste in my mouth.”
