Bartomeu calls Tebas to ask him for an explanation

The Barça president is not impressed with what the LFP president's said about the Blaugrana players

The programme ’Què t'hi jugues!' on Cadena SER revealed on Wednesday that FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has called the president of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) Javier Tebas to ask him to explain his comments.

Speaking to SportYou, in reference to what he viewed as unnecessary actions from some Barça players during their 3-2 win over Valencia on Saturday, Tebas said: “If my children were to see my feigning something, I would feel embarrassed when I went to see them later.”

According to Cadena SER, as well as asking for an explanation, Bartomeu made Tebas aware that something else he’d said -- “the Barça players went down like skittles” -- had only generated violence and further stoked the fire.

He also pointed out to Tebas, as Jordi Mestre did in Tarragona on Tuesday, that he is no-one to talk about the Barcelona players.

As usually happens in these scenarios, Tebas claimed that his quotes had been taken out of context, although there’s video footage which suggests otherwise. The president of the LFP also defended the RFEF’s Competition Committee, whose report read very similarly to his words

Even the former president of the Competition Committee, Alfredo Florez, speaking on the programme, wasn’t in agreement with Tebas: “It is not appropriate or right to refer to the Barcelona players [like he did],” he said.

In any case, Bartomeu and Tebas’ conversation, according to ’Què t'hi jugues!’, ended in a less angry, more affable tone.
