Never seen before: The Competition Committee attack Barcelona!

The Catalan club's players have been blamed for their part in the scenes at the end of the game at Mestalla

The RFEF’s Competition Committee have been really tough on Barcelona. This time, despite Barça’s players being the victims, they have been criticised for their actions and accused of provocative behaviour.

The Competition Committee have taken a similar line to the one shown by LFP president Javier Tebas, who suggested the Barça players themselves were responsible for having objects, including a bottle of water, thrown at them at Mestalla on Saturday.

In their statement, they highlight the “lack of example” shown by the Barça players as they celebrated Lionel Messi’s stoppage time winner from the penalty spot. “The behaviour by some players from F.C. Barcelona discredits and ridicules [themselves],” they say.

And they add: “The reproachable behaviour shown by some of the F.C. Barcelona players, who made certain gestures and expressions to the [Valencia] supporters as they celebrated the goal they’d just scored, should not be overlooked.

“Nor was it precisely an example of sportsmanship the way some of the club’s players reacted — without having come into contact with the bottle — by simultaneously feigning they’d been struck by the object.”

It’s never been seen before. Barcelona have been turned from the victim into the guilty party. As for Valencia, they have been handed a ridiculous fine of just 1500 euros for their fans’ behaviour.
