Barcelona’s youth teams are enjoying one of their most glorious seasons. Barca B are the leader in Segunda B and have qualified for the play-offs, while Juvenil A are champions of the Division of Honour and are in the final four of the UEFA Youth League.

After the FIFA sanction’s damage La Masia has recovered, but now is the moment to return to the philosophy that has often been imperative at Can Barça, that which gives protagonism to the stand out players instead of spending millions on footballers from elsewhere who do not deliver.

Carles Aleña is one of the most promising prospects from La Masia and has been in the squad on various occasions. Some of his qualities have even seen him compared to Rivaldo.

But beyond Aleña, there are footballers who are having great seasons and have chances to move up to the first team squad. Sergi Palencia and Marlon, as well as forwards Marc Cardona and Dani Romera, without forgetting Gerard Gumbau, ‘Golden Boy’ nominee Ferran Sarsanedas and Alex Carbonell.

However, you also have to look back at the players who have been sent away or sold. Tello, Munir, Deulofeu, Hector Bellerin, etc, as a warning. Cesc and Pique too, although they came back through the front door.

The idea that the club could use a lot of players from Barcelona B depends on what happens, if they go up to the Segunda or not being one of them. But one thing is clear: Barcelona DNA should return and La Masia is where they preserve it.
