Real Madrid's season from hell has sparked Florentino Perez into action as he looks to rebuild a new squad for Zinedine Zidane. According to 'Marca', Porto's Eder Militao will be the first new signing at the club.
Madrid supporters saw Barça qualify for the quarter finals of the Champions League last night so needed some news to help ease that pain. The transfer should be finalised before the end of this month.
'Marca' claim the deal between Porto, Real Madrid and the player is complete. The only thing holding up the transfer was agreeing terms with Sao Paulo, Militao's former club.
Vallejo out and a warning to Ramos?
The intention is to reinforce the defence which has suffered in recent seasons. Varane, Sergio Ramos, Nacho and Vallejo are the current crop of players for the two central roles. The last of whom is expected to move on from the club, be it on loan or on a permanent deal, in order to get regular minutes.
However perhaps the signing of a new, senior centre half is in fact a warning to Madrid's captain. Ramos defended his side in wake of criticism from Perez following the defeat to Ajax.
Militao has a €50 million euros release clause active until the 15th July. Beyond that date the Brazilian's clause will rise by 50% to €75m.
A POSSIBLE RIVAL FOR BARÇA
Militao has been in sensational form since moving to Europe and is comfortable playing at full back as well as in the centre. Porto, unlike Real Madrid, are still in the Champions League and could be drawn against Barça in the quarter finals.
He's been called up by Tite for the upcoming matches against Panama and Czech Republic as Brazil prepare for Copa America.
