Coach Zinedine Zidane no longer untouchable for the Madrid press

The Frenchman's return to the club is not going as he would have hoped

The press in Real Madrid are focusing on the latest crisis after the club were hammered 3-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in midweek. The attitude of the players has been called out after they were beaten by a PSG side without Mbappé, Neymar or Cavani.

However, some of the media in the capital are also looking towards a new culprit: the coach Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman is no longer untouchable in Madrid. He has credit after winning three Champions Leagues in his first spell at the Bernabeu as boss but his return is not going as smoothly.

Here are some of the most significant examples:

Marca

The website opened with: "Real Madrid are now debating Zidane's decisions," while the article added that "Zidane's lost credit."

The analysis points out that "six months after his return, Madrid seemed to have found themselves in another black hole" and say that the bad signs in La Liga spilled into the Champions League, an area where Zidane usually excels.

Marca continue by saying the same weaknesses as last season are on show and question the "magic aura" Zidane previously brought to the club.

Abc

The title on the newspaper is: "Zidane, six months lost." The text continues: "The Frenchman arrived in March to carry out a change which has not happened, with strange decisions in the building of the squad."

It adds: "He arrived as a vitamin injection to revitalise the triple European champions but decisions taken over the last six months, on and off the pitch, have worried the club."

El Mundo del Siglo XXI

"Pogba or nothing. Zidane's risky bet is now taking its toll on Madrid."

El Mundo focus on Zidane's stubbornness in pushing for Manchester United's Paul Pogba. Having failed to land the Frenchman, Madrid have been left dangerously short in midfield. With away games at Sevilla and Atletico on the horizon, the heat is on.

El Confidencial

Title: "The mess Zidane's got himself in and how and anxious Real Madrid are suffering."

After explaining that president Florentino Perez is "annoyed", the article says that "Zidane showing signs of being lost and he has less enthusiasm. The coach is more in question outside than inside the club, although the president is waiting to see if what happened in Paris was merely an accident."
