Pep Guardiola’s team took the lead when Gabriel Jesus nodded home from Bernardo Silva’s cross.

Then David Silva doubled hotel had after a fine chipped ball from England forward Raheem Sterling.

Bernardo Silva and Jesus came close in the second half, while Christian Benteke hit the crossbar for the hosts.

Kevin de Bruyne should have been given a penalty in the second half but VAR did not tell Anthony Taylor to overturn his decision after Wilfried Zaha brought him down in the area.

"After the international break, to play here at Selhurst Park and create a lot of chances was good,” said Guardiola.

“We played well but didn't score too many - but we didn't concede. We conceded chances at the end but Ederson made two incredible saves. It's three points and we move forward.

"We enjoyed the second goal - it was nice. But in the Premier League we have to score the third and fourth because it was difficult in the end with the pressure.”
