Valverde: Es el partido que todos quieren jugar (EN)

Barça's hegemony in La Liga becoming insulting

OPINION

Leagues measure how solid a project is. As important as the Champions League is, the domestic championship measured a team's consistency and a coach's ability to management. Barça, in the last decade, have dominated La Liga to the point that their hegemony is beginning to become insulting.

They're an example of a sporting project which has continued year after year, led by Lionel Messi on the pitch and accompanied by top level players who have changed from season to season. Barça have an idea and a clear project, while their great rival, Real Madrid continue to press the wrong buttons. And it looks like their drought will last for a few more years yet. There's not doubt that Florentino Perez's interventions are proving costly.

Speaking about this season, winning La Liga in the month of April deserves huge credit. From those in the offices who build the squad, to the players and through to the coach's methods. It's not easy to manage a squad full of stars and Ernesto Valverde has managed to do that with ease. He is well liked in the dressing room.

Valverde's been fair with his distribution of minutes, he has prioritised the big games and has made changes at the right moments. Maybe Barça haven't always been at their dazzling best, but the reality is they have hammered their rivals when they have wanted to. And the best thing? The future looks good, too.
