They don't want Barca to win this cup. The four consecutive Copa del Reys won by the Catalans sit badly in Madrid. Very badly. A fifth would be unbearable. It's true that Madrid have given up on the competition - and on La Liga - with the excuse that only the Champions League matters. And it's true that in Europe Madrid have shone, four out of the last five UCLs.
But what the powers that be and the Madrid media chamber can't take, and even less in these political times, is that Barca are kings of their cup. And they have taken advantage of a beaurocratic error to try and stop the Blaugrana in the offices. Avoiding another final at the Wanda with the anthem being whistled. But watch out, Girona are in the quarter finals.
Barca made a mistake picking Chumi. It was an error, at least without consulting the RFEF. The risk being run was too great, looking at the famous Caso Cheryshev at Madrid, and above all with the enthusiasm those in the capital have to go at Barca. But it would not have happened if someone at the FA had not leaked the news to one of the biggest Madrid media outlets. Levante didn't even know about it. An error, yes, but persecution too.
