Two days before the World Cup in Russia starts, Real Madrid announced that Julen Lopetegui would be their coach next season. This caused shockwaves amongst the dressing room in Krasnodar, where Spain are currently preparing ahead of the tournament.
The coach didn't speak on Tuesday and said he would on Wednesday at a press conference, first scheduled for 10:30 then delayed by over an hour.
At the press conference Rubiales announced that Lopetegui has been sacked as Spain's coach.
There is no word yet on who will replace him ahead of Spain's opener against Portugal on Saturday.
