Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has become an ambassador for Malaysia, after agreeing a 12 month deal according to Free Malaysia Today.
The contract, signed by Tourism Malaysia and Mediapro, means Suarez will become the image to promote the idyllic beaches of the country, its culture, gastronomy, etc, to attract visitors.
The minister of tourism and culture, Mohammed Nazri Aziz, spoke about the reasons he was chosen.
"He's like a hero for the millennial generation, Suarez is an inspiration for many, we hope that this means Malaysia will shine as a tropical holiday destination to attract the millennial spirit and adventure," he said.
Suarez said it was an honour to work with Malaysia and he is looking forward to travelling there. He pointed out: "its rich culture and heritage for all my fans, to make them fans of Malaysia."
