In an event which celebrated a new agreement between LaLiga and Movistar, Javier Tebas spoke about the recent decision to move the first El Clasico of the season to 13:00. "It's stopped being an event only for Spain and this allows more places to watch it, including Asia."
Tebas continued: "Now you put a 'Clasico' at one o'clock and you can see it in more places across the world. Our international work consists of that. If we don't put it at that time, in Asia they won't be able to watch it. It's Spanish football but it's no longer only for Spanish people. There are fans all over the world."
The LaLiga president also said that it was important to have a more competitive league to gain more traction in those valuable international markets. He also pointed out that match attendances have risen by 25% over the last six years.
