Joel López, a member of Barcelona's academy, has bid farewell to the club on social media as he travels to England for a new stage in his career. Lopez told Barcelona about his intentions to leave the club weeks ago, brought to you first by SPORT, and his post was to thank his friends, teammates and coaches at Barcelona's academy during his time at the club.
"We've reached the day where I need to say goodbye to the place which was been my home for the last seven years. Thank you Barcelona. You'll always be the club that I'll have in my heart for the marvellous moments I've lived alongside my teammates, physios, coaches, staff and directors. You are all magnificant people who have made me feel welcome since the first day I arrived," he wrote on his Instagram post. "It was a difficult decision to make but after thinking about it alongside my family, I've made the decision to leave and start a new chapter in my career. Thank you to those who have always stood by me.
Joel López will follow the same path that both Cesc Fàbregas and Héctor Bellerín took as they abandoned La Masia to sign for Arsenal. He's spoken to the players in recent months to ask them about the move and the adaptation to English football. An U16 international for Spain, Lopez has already penned his contract with Arsenal and is now just waiting for the London club to make his move official.
