Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti, currently with the France squad who are preparing for the World Cup in Russia this summer, was on Telefoot on Sunday morning after Les Bleus 3-2 loss to Yerry Mina's Colombia on Friday.
The centre-back didn't clear up his future plans when asked about a possible contract renewal at Barça. "Joker," he said when asked by the journalist. He gave the same response when asked a second interesting question by the journalist on thow: "Will you sign for Manchester United?"
Umtiti is out of contract at Barça in 2021 and the Catalan club have initiated contact with his agent over a possible extension. But his performances have provoked interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs, such as United, who would be prepared to pay his 60 million euro release clause and increase his current wage (around four million net per season at Camp Nou).
In France, they're already speculating that it's a possible strategy which his agent and brother, Yannick, has come up with to put pressure on Barça during the negotiations.
Umtiti was also asked about the arrival of his compatriot Anotine Griezmann at Barça. "If I have spoken with him while with the national team? No," he responded, before admitting with a laugh that he had lied at moments during the conversation.
