Samuel Umtiti has been cleared to return to competitive action and travelled to Lyon this week, the club where his professional career began.
The Barcelona defender is not in the starting lineup for the Champions League last 16 first leg match but he has earned a place on the bench.
Rather than rush him back, Ernesto Valverde has preferred to stick with Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet as his two centre-backs.
Umtiti's return to competitive football, then, comes on the bench. Colombian defender Jeison Murillo, signed in January, is also a substitute along with midfielders Arturo Vidal and Carles Aleña and forwards Philippe Coutinho and Malcom.
The last time Umtiti played for Barça was at Atletico Madrid in November. Since then he has been undergoing conservative treatment on a knee injury -- he turned down surgery.
