Six position Andre Gomes: Barça's right-back for the Copa del Rey final?

The Portuguese has been used all over the park by Luis Enrique this season

In recent games he's played at full-back and that could be the case vs. Alaves

Luis Enrique Martínez will change his side for the final of the Copa del Rey against Alaves this weekend. Jasper Cillessen is the cup goalkeeper and Sergi Roberto and Luis Suarez are suspended. Andre Gomes, one of the coach's favourite players throughout the season, is likely to start the final at the Vicente Calderon on May 27.

Gomes has been one of the players at the centre of many debates throughout the season. The Portuguese international was one of Barça's big bets last summer and Luis Enrique has given him a lot of opportunities, but he has been criticised regularly.

SIX posiTIONS

Andre Gomes has played in six different positions in the 46 games he has taken part in for Barcelona: holding midfield, right centre of midfield, left centre of midfield, wide left, wide right and now, against Las Palmas and Eibar, at right-back.

In attack, until now, the former Valencia midfielder has scored three goals and provided two assists, however some of his performances have left fans wondering if he can take the step forward the team needs. For example, in the first leg of the Champions League round-of-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain -- a 4-0 loss.

Barça STYLE

It's well known that it's not easy to adapt to a style of play as special as Barcelona's. Gomes is a player with impressive stature, long strides and who is able to cover a large part of the pitch.

But he has been unable to show the necessary dynamism and has also had problems adapting to the team's positional play, which is conditioned by the MSN, formed by Messi, Suarez and Neymar.

ANOTHER CHANCE

The difficulties have not eased up in the last two games when he has had to play as a right-back. Against UD Las Palmas, he came on for the injured Lucas Digne for 32 minutes and suffered in a position which, especially at Barça, demands pace and the capacity to get up and down the flank.

Things were not much better against Eibar. He came on at half-time for another injured player, this time Sergi Robero, and found himself out of position once again, especially for Inui's second goal.

Andre Gomes -- discrete, professional and identified with Barça -- has suffered in this first season after his dream move. Maybe Luis Enrique will give him one more chance to redeem himself in the Copa final. As a midfielder, a wide man or a right-back...
