Paris Saint-Germain are on the verge of signing German midfielder Julian Weigl from Borussia Dortmund. Weigl is one of the brightest prospects in the Bundesliga and if he does end up joining the French club, it might see Frenkie De Jong move to Barça.
Both players occupy a similar position on the pitch and are a similar age (De Jong is 21, Weigl 23). The signing of the German could see PSG abandon their plans to bring in De Jong, freeing up Barcelona to make a move for the Ajax star.
PSG's current coach and former Dortmund manager, Thomas Tuchel, has spent weeks trying to get his sporting department to secure the signing of a midfielder to help out his bid to win the Champions League. Following the Rabiot saga, where the club told him he could not use the midfielder, this transfer would ease his worries.
The cost of the deal bringing Weigl to Paris is said to be around 25 million euros. The midfielder isn't hasn't been an ever present for Dortmund this season and it appears he will try and force the move to PSG through.
In the transfer does happen, it might see the French champions abandon the hopes of securing De Jong in the summer. The Dutch midfielder is one of the top targets for Barça.
