Philippe Coutinho is almost certain to join Barcelona. Negotiations are advanced and Barcelona club sources are hugely optimistic he will join, despite a final price not being fixed. Barcelona understand the player's posture, that he wants to join whatever happens, and that this will be key in the matter and that Liverpool will eventual realise they have to sell him.
Coutinho has told the English club he wants to leave and they are open to listen to Barcelona. More than an economic problem, Liverpool are taking things calmly because they are involved in the Champions League qualifiers. They play in mid-August and want to call on Coutinho for this crucial test. At least the first leg.
Barcelona met in London with the player's people and studied the best options to make the signing a reality. With Coutinho there is no problem for him to sign a five year deal, with a lower salary than in England, but with variables that mean he could make more if things go well. The Brazilian wants to come because he is convinced he can win titles at Camp Nou.
The Catalans will go from 70m to 85m, but no more, although Liverpool know Barcelona have 220m to spend when Neymar goes to PSG. Coutinho was not a priority for Barcelona but they like him because he can cover various positions on the pitch - attacking midfield or part of the striking trident.
Barcelona have not forgotten Paulinho either. The club knows the Brazilian will add the muscle necessary in the middle and will try and bring him in before the window shuts too.
