Luis Filipe Vieira, Benfica president, accompanyed by super agent Jorge Mendes, landed on Tuesday in Barcelona. A short trip, little more than 24 hours, with an intense agenda. He had two clear objectives in Barcelona. A dinner with representatives from Manchester City and a second encounter with Barcelona technical staff.
Benfica has a team with a lot of desirable players. One of them, Nelson Semedo, is a right-back. He has had a fine season at 23 years old and would cost around 30m euros.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo confirmed the dinner with Man City. But there was a second date with Barcelona.
The technical team of Barcelona has picked up the pace in recent weeks regarding Semedo. They sent a scout to Portugal last week to watch him play against Rio Ave. There were Manchester United and Sevilla staff there too. However Hector Bellerin is Barcelona's prime target.
Jorge Mendes was not present at the meeting with Barcelona. Semedo left the agent a few months ago and is now working with agent Luca Bascherini. Mendes is, however the agent of Valencia's Joao Cancelo, whom Barcelona are also interested in.
