Ernesto Valverde has confirmed that Lionel Messi will not be fit in time for Saturday's game against Osasuna in La Liga.
The Barcelona coach said that the forward could be back in time for Valencia, who are the club's first opponent after the international break in September.
Messi has not played this season after injuring his calf in training following his return for the new season, which forced him out of the club's tour of the U.S.
He is one of several players who missed training on Friday, with Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele also sidelined with injuries.
New signings Neto and Junior Firpo were also unable to train with their teammates due to knocks.
"Messi is still continuing with his recovery work," Valverde said in a press conference. "With the time we have now with the break, we hope he will be back for the Valencia game and then the Champions League."
