Barcelona's hopes of signing Frenkie de Jong from Ajax have been parked for now. The midfielder himself, after his side's Champions League game against Dinamo Kiev this week, confirmed that he would remain in Holland for another season.
Ajax's performances in the qualifiers for Euro[e's top competition have encouraged him to continue his growth in Amsterdam for at least another 12 months.
Barça have not been left with their arms crossed, though, and have another name: Kevin Kampl, a 27-year-old Slovenian international who plays for German side Leipzig and has been linked with Atletico Madrid.
Kampl's a player who can play at the base of a midfield, a position where Sergio Busquets will need a rest at times throughout the season. His performances in the Bundesliga have been positive and he's a consistent playe.
In any case, Barça will have an eye on the market until the transfer window closes in Spain next week. They are, as has been repeated by everyone at the club, open to any possibilities.
