Former Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has manifested his desire to return to football after leaving his role with the Gunners last summer, following 22 years in charge of the club.

After so long in London, his goodbye suggested retirement, but Wenger has made it clear he's keen to get back to work in 2019.

The Frenchman was replaced at the end of last season by Unai Emery. Now, Wenger says he is "ready to return to work." The coach says he has received various offers but gave no names. However, Goal have suggested he could be the replacement for Ernesto Valverde at Barcelona.

Barça's inconsistent start to the season in La Liga and their lack of solidness in defence has left coach Valverde in a tough spot. In his second Camp Nou season, his position has been questioned and the rumours have started. Goal say the Catalans are thinking of Wenger due to the "uncertainty over Valverde's future."

What's certain is that it's too soon to write off Valverde, with his second season only just underway, but the situation at Barça is feeding the rumour mill.
