Exclusive: Meeting in Barcelona to discuss future of Yerry Mina

Barcelona and Palmeiras are discussing the future of Yerry Mina in the Catalan capital. The president of the Brazilian side, Mauricio Galiotte, and sporting director Alexandre Matto, have set off from Sao Paulo to find out first hand the intentions of Barcelona with the Colombia international ahead of the 2017-18 season.

Barcelona acquired an option to buy for 9 million euro in May 2016 when the central left Independiente Santa Fe for Palmeiras, on a five-year deal.

Yerry has become a key player at Palmeiras. In 2016 he helped them win the Brasileirao, a title that they had not lifted since 1994 when Rivaldo was there. In 2017 his quality is key for the club, who want to win the Copa Libertadores.

The objective of the trip is to convince Barcelona that Mina should stay in Brazil until, at least, December, which is when the South American season finished.

Robert Fernandez has been keeping an eye on Mina, who is a starter for Colombia in the World Cup qualifiers. Contact with his people is fluid and frequent. The only thing left to do is take the decisive step, although this is postponed until Robert Fernandez can see him live.

Palmeiras want to take advantage of being in Barcelona to extend their links with the Catalan club. Sporting director Alexandre Mattos has a magnificent relationship with some football staff at Barcelona after his era at Cruzeiro.

The Brazilian press are speculating that Palmeiras could make Barcelona some kind of offer to establish a relationship around youth football.
