Despite only being in the role for a few days, Maurizio Sarri has convinced Roman Abramovich that his current plan won't work if he wants Chelsea to be competitive next season. The oil rich owner is upset at bureaucratic issues preventing him from entering England and is willing to let all his wantaway stars leave the club. Essentially, Abramovich is happy to generate money by losing talent. However Sarri is trying to stop the exodus of players from Stamford Bridge. Courtois and Hazard's exits are seen as 'done' but Willian is another story all together. Despite knowing that the Brazilian wants to leave, Chelsea have reacted to the news by offering him a new contract.
At the moment, Willian still wants to leave. He's been at Chelsea for five seasons and sees this as the right time for a change of scenery. He had a difficult relationship with the club's former coach, Antonio Conte, and this has caused him to push for a move away this summer. Chelsea aren't in the Champions League next season either and that's a title the player is desperate to win before he calls time on his career.
Just because Willian wants to leave doesn't mean that the player is going to go into business for himself. In fact, quite the opposite. The former Shakhtar man will consider the offer from Chelsea before giving his answer. The increased wages and the possibility of being a key member under Sarri are reasons to sign, while all the other factors are reasons not to.
Willian has toyed with the idea of leaving and now it appears the 29-year-old is closer than ever to playing for Barcelona. His friend and fellow countryman, Coutinho, has told him great things about the club and city. For Willian the most important aspect is the fact Ernesto Valverde personally asked for him.
