Ernesto Valverde has given the 'green light' for FC Barcelona to sell Ivan Rakitic this summer. According to 'Cadena SER', the coach has relaxed his position from earlier on in the season when he considered Rakitic a crucial member of his squad. Now, for the right price, he would let Rakitic leave.
In a meeting held between Valverde and Bartomeu last Tuesday, they spoke about potential incomings and outgoings over the summer. Rakitic, who has a contract until 2021 and wants to remain at the Camp Nou, is valued highly by Valverde. In fact, the coach will only sanction a transfer if he's promised that a world-class replacement comes in.
The midfielder, who is currently on holiday, is on a decent wage and Barça believe they could get a high return if they cashed in on him now. The Premier League and Serie A appear to be the most likely options, Manchester United are known admirers of the Croatian, and all that remains now is to convince the player to move on.
Barça are only able to spend €100m this summer due to Financial Fair Play restrictions so if they are to add bigger names to their squad, the majority of their funds must come from selling existing stars.
