German newspaper 'Bild' insist that Thiago Alcántara is very likely to leave Bayern Munich and return to Barcelona this summer. Niko Kovac wants to reduce the number of players in the squad and the Spanish international has been made available for transfer.
Although Real Madrid's new coach, Julen Lopetegui, is also interested in Thiago it appears the footballer would prefer a move to the Camp Nou. This is what Thiago told Bayern officials and they are open to selling him this summer.
If Thiago does indeed return, it would be five years after he left the club to sign for Bayern in a €25m deal. As a La Masia graduate he knows Barcelona's system and style well and would easily adapt to Ernesto Valverde's plans.
'Bild' recalls that Thiago left Barcelona because of the players in front of him. Now that Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas have left the route to the starting XI is a lot easier.
Although Bayern want €70m, Barcelona hope to negotiate the fee down. Thiago played 31 times for Bayern last season and scored seven goals. He was also part of Spain's World Cup squad.
In fact, Barcelona's director of football Eric Abidal has already given his thumbs up to re-signing the midfielder.
