Chelsea are refusing to discuss a transfer at the moment but Barça hope that if they team up with Willian's representatives a deal can be made

Barcelona are trying to unblock their move for Willian. The Brazilian is one of the players that Ernesto Valverde has personally asked for and the club want to know whether a deal is possible or not. In order to do this, they've arranged a meeting with the Chelsea winger's representatives in the Spanish city to thrash out a plan out of action.

Firstly, Barça want to know if the player will try and force through a move to the Camp Nou. Willian is excited by the prospect of joining Barcelona but he's also comfortable at Chelsea. This means that Barça chiefs know a move would be extremely difficult to pull off unless Willian pushes for it.

Talks between Chelsea and Barcelona are advancing but the two sides are yet to reach a compromise on the transfer fee. Barça feel €60m is a fair price but Chelsea aren't willing to even discuss Willian's sale.

the player is waiting

For this reason Barcelona want to plan out a strategy with Willian's agents. At the moment, the Brazilian is still on holiday following his World Cup exploits and is waiting to hear about any news surrounding his future.

Willian is interested in changing clubs but mainly due to sporting reasons. For example, Barcelona are unlikely to offer higher wages than he's currently on at Chelsea.

Chelsea aren't in the Champions League next season and that counts against them. Willian, naturally, isn't particularly interested in playing in the Europa League.

sporting ambition

In contrast, at Barcelona, they are expected to challenge for all major honours. Willian knows, through his representatives and good friend Coutinho, that Barça are looking for top level acquisitions in order to build on last season's double success.

The meeting in Barcelona will be so both sides can let their intentions be known ahead of making another bid for Willian. Barça don't want to go crazy for a player who is close to turning 30. They feel €60m is already a high offer and hope that if the player indicates he wants to leave, Chelsea should accept the bid.
