Barça were the only European club to donate money to Chapecoense
Four months on from the events the club's president has revealed how Barça helped
The Blaugrana have also invited the Brazilians to play in this year's Joan Gamper
Nearly four months after the tragedy that will always mark Chapecoense, president Plinio David de Nes has explained that Barcelona were the only club that tried to help them economically.
“Only Barcelona were on our side from the very first moment," he said in an interview with Fox Sports.
“They offered us funds and in the month of August we have been invited to play the Gamper Trophy, with the proceeds shared with Chapecoense.”
“Roma also offered to play a game against us, but we have a very packed calendar. We have almost three games a week.”
Shortly after the accident, which cost 71 people their lives, there were many clubs offering their support to Chapecoense and there was talk of them being loaned players to help re-build their team.
The reality is that from Europe only Barcelona made a donation to help the Brazilian side.
Not only that, but they invited them to play in the Joan Gamper this summer, which the club quickly accepted.
