Paul Pogba adds millions on to his transfer value

Paul Pogba added millions on to his transfer value as he struck against Nigeria to send France through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Les Blues were the better side but were still below par and it took a Joseph Yobo own goal to add sheen to the score.

Pogba was the game's best player and deserved his second-half goal, which helped France knock out the Super Eagles.

Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama had a fantastic game but was at fault for the opening goal, flapping at a Mathieu Valbuena corner, which Pogba then headed into an empty net

France had looked turgid with Olivier Giroud up front and Karim Benzema pushed further to the left, until Antoine Griezmann came on for the Arsenal striker after an hour.

He immediately set up Benzema, whose strike was parried by Enyeama and hacked away from the line by Victor Moses

Yohan Cabaye smashed a 20-yard drive off of the crossbar as France probed for the opening goal, which eventually came after Enyeama's mistake.

Nigeria were solid in defence but offered little up top, with a disallowed Emmanuel Emenike strike the total of their attackers contribution.

John Obi Mikel was solid as ever as a shield for the defence, similarly to how he plays for Chelsea, but also showed added creativity as he ran the game for Nigeria.

Eventually France took the lead, and then Yobo put through his own net at the death, after pressure from Griezmann.

The Real Sociedad star had made a case to be included from the off in the quarter-final.
