Real Madrid squad want Kiko Casilla to replace Keylor Navas in goal

The Costa Rican's errors have re-opened the debate on the goalkeeping position

The goalkeeping situation at Real Madrid is once again in the spotlight. Keylor Navas’ recent errors, especially the second goal against Legia Warsaw, has the patience of some Madrid players wearing thin. In the dressing room it’s felt that the Costa Rican is not in his best form and is incapable of saving points in La Liga or the Champions League. The majority of players feel that Kiko Casilla is in much better form and it’s the time to let him demonstrate it.

Casilla began the season well, taking advantage of the injury suffered by Navas. Los Blancos won the European Super Cup with him between the posts and he impressed against Espanyol and, above all, Sporting Club. In fact, without his performance in that latter game, Madrid would be even further behind Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League group. Casilla, who returned to the side for the Copa del Rey game against Cultural Leon, has conceded 10 goals in his nine appearances. Navas has conceded the same in seven games.

Zidane now must make a decision based on pressure in and out of the dressing room. That’s because in the VIP boxes at the Bernabeu no-one is convinced by Navas at the moment, either. President Florentino Perez wanted to sell him to Manchester United and sign David de Gea, but that deal fell through last summer. The Champions League win put the brakes on anything happening this year, but it seems the Costa Rican is under a lot of pressure.
