Cristiano Ronaldo set to earn 23 million euros with new deal at Madrid
Los Blancos will give the 31-year-old a bumper five-year deal ahead of their transfer ban
Cristiano Ronaldo is in talks over extending his Real Madrid deal until 2021. The player's agent is negotiating with Florentino Perez so that Ronaldo, 31, remains linked to the club until he is 36. It's set to be the last big contract the player, who's become a club icon, signs in Europe.
Jorge Mendes is dealing with Perez in search of an exceptional deal and, according to Cuatro, that means around 23 million euros net per season. It's a lot of money when you keep in mind the length of the deal and the fact the player's approaching the final years of his sporting career.
It would place as the second highest contract in Spanish football, behind Lionel Messi and ahead of Neymar, whose renewal is worth 15 million euros annually.
Madrid know their options are reduced as they are due to face a transfer ban from FIFA soon. Perez wanted to offer a shorter deal, but has now given in. The club are planning when and how to announce the renewal. They have three options on the table: An announcement at the Bernabeu with the public present, an event in the gallery which would be transmitted on screens at the Bernabeu or, finally, a press conference.
Real Madrid, according to Cuatro, want to announce the new deal within two or three weeks.
On Wednesday they revealed that midfielder Toni Kroos has agreed a new contract until 2022. The former Bayern Munich player's current terms were due to expire in 2020. Other players, such as Gareth Bale, are also in talks regarding new contracts.
