Ballon d'Or favourite Cristiano Ronaldo trails Messi & Mahrez in France Football poll
None of the other 30 nominees have more than two per cent of the votes, including Neymar and Suarez
France Football, the organisers of the Ballon d’Or, are holding a poll on their website to see who football fans think should pocket the prize for 2016.
With nearly 1,000,000 votes now registered, the big surprise is that the big favourite, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, is not leading the way. In fact, he’s not even in second place, but third.
Ahead of him is Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, who leads the way with 33 per cent of the vote and is followed by Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez, who has 29 per cent of the vote. The Algerian helped the Foxes win the Premier League last season has them top of their Champions League group with three wins from three games.
Ronaldo then comes in third with 24 per cent of the vote, while none of the other 30 nominees have more than two per cent, including Luis Suarez and Neymar.
