If Barcelona had to appoint the new coach today he would be the chosen one

Against Valencia he was the one giving instructions on the touchline at a frequency not seen until now

Almost as if he didn't want it, the name of Juan Carlos Unzue has been quietly growing and he is officially the main candidate to replace Luis Enrique on the bench next season. First the dressing room showed their approval. Later the public support followed, after Pique and Iniesta left nothing ambiguous. Following that Luis Enrique also said he would never fight with his assistant - referring to the problems between Cruyff and Rexach or Pep and Tito, when they had similar situations. And Unzue on Monday hinted he wanted the job when he said he "hopes not to have any free time to cycle" in the coming year. At these heights, as assistant coach of Barcelona, that's how his words have to be interpreted.

In training on Friday, Unzue came out with Luis Enrique from the dressing room and on Sunday, against Valencia he was the one giving instructions on the touchline at a frequency not seen until now. That's to say, he is slowly converting into a coach, or so it seems. If the decision had to be taken today, without doubt he could be the chosen candidate. However the decision could change in the weeks ahead, based on results, and in football you never know what could happen, nothing is definitive until it is. But for now, there are no doubts: all roads lead towards Unzue.
