Sergio Ramos could make a shock return to action for Madrid

Sergio Ramos could make a shock return to action when Real Madrid travel to Villarreal on Sunday.

The defender's season has been disrupted by a shoulder injury, which he picked up in the Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

Through painkilling injections he was able to continue playing but decided to take some time out after the Clasico humiliation, in the hope the injury could heal.

Therefore he was expected to miss between four and six weeks, but Rafa Benitez suggest he could return this weekend.

"He won't be in the squad for Wednesday's game [vs Malmo]," said the Madrid coach.

"However he is getting better, as I said, and I would not rule him out for the game against Villarreal."

Ramos trained on Monday with the rest of Madrid's squad.
