Sampaoli obsessed with his keepers playing from the back

Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico has revealed that new coach Jorge Sampaoli has been keeping him and the other keepers in the squad on their toes.

In an insight into the style of play that the Argentine will be implementing at the Sanchez Pizjuan, Rico stated:

"The goalkeepers of the future will be comfortable with the ball at their feet, and that is what the coach is implanting.

"(He has) a new idea of play, of beautiful football that everyone likes, playing from the back, in a very active and dynamic way, with a high press."

Rico admitted that Sampaoli "squeezes the maximum" out of the squad, but that the work done now will provide "the gasoline that sustains you for the whole season."

The former Chile national coach has been compared to Marcelo Bielsa in his methods, very demanding and sure of exactly how he wants his teams to play.

The Spain international goalkeeper commented:

"When there is a new manager and technical staff, the most important thing is to adapt."

Ahead of the European and Spanish Super Cups in August, Rico said he is "wanting the first finals to arrive" that the team will have to "fight tooth and nail" to lift the trophies.

He also showed excitement at the thought of being back in the Champions League, stating the team "have all the enthusiasm in the world to begin" and of "hearing that anthem again."
