Man United could offer Ramos 55 million euros over five seasons

Sergio Ramos' interest in leaving Real Madrid is not as much sporting, but rather financial. The central defender earns 5.5 million euros per year at the club, according to Don Balon. However, president Florentino Perez will not give Ramos a pay rise to 10 million euros as he has been asked for, leading towards the player leaning more towards Manchester United who are interested in his services.

Manchester United have gone two years without any trophies and have been going through a phase of trying to strengthen their playing squad, and have put a mind-boggling contract in front of Ramos. The Red Devils are trying to convince the Spain international to join them with an offer of 55 million euros, with tax taken into account, for five seasons.

Ramos will start earning 12 million euros in his first season at Man United, with the amount decreasing each year by 500,000 euros in each of the following campaigns. In total, it will add up to 55 million euros, without tax.

The signing of Ramos would make the player the highest paid player in the squad alongside Wayne Rooney, and would have been the same as Radamel Falcao had the Colombian forward not returned to Monaco after his loan deal.

Signing a central defender of world-class ability has become an obsession of Van Gaal's, who is facing his second season in charge of Man United. After the exits of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in recent years, the club haven't had a solid pair of centre-backs since.
