Malaga 1-1 Real Madrid: Bye bye to La Liga from Los Blancos once again

It's goodbye to La Liga for another year for Real Madrid. Los Blancos stumbled away at Malaga and sleep tonight nine points behind leaders FC Barcelona.

Given the Catalans beat them 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu, it's likely the reigning champion will also end up with a better head-to-head ranking too, making it effectively 10 points.

Real Madrid had a makeshift team at La Rosaleda, with Nacho at centre-back for the suspended Raphael Varane, Jese and Isco up front with Cristiano Ronaldo. James, meanwhile, started the game on the bench.

Juanpi missed the first huge chance of the game, played through on goal by an awful Toni Kroos pass, but he took it badly, struggling to race in and scuffed a weak shot straight at Keylor Navas.

At the other end, Isco had a cross-shot deflected away from goal and Carlos Idriss Kameni made a good stop from close range when Marcelo worked Jese in.

Nacho Camacho was strong in the centre for Malaga, helping the Andalusian side give as good as they got, if not better.

However, Madrid took the lead when Ronaldo's looping header found the net, after Toni Kroos crossed from a free kick. The Portuguese was clearly offside but the goal stood.

And a minute later he had a penalty, when he was taken down in the box by Weligton. However it went begging with Kameni getting down low to push it behind.

Malaga equalised after 66 minutes, when Raul Albentosa rammed into the roof of the net after his centre-back partner Weligton crossed for him. And Malaga nearly went ahead 10 minutes later when Charles' header was tipped over expertly by Navas.

Luka Modric had a late penalty appeal turned down, before the referee blew for full time, ending the game and Madrid's hopes of winning La Liga.
