Chelsea tried to buy Lionel Messi for €150m last summer
According to news channel TV3, Chelsea tried to buy Lionel Messi for €150million during the summer transfer window.
It was after the game against Atletico Madrid, when Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League that Jose Mourinho made his move.
Trying to capitalise on the player being unsettled by the club's form under Tata Martino, Chelsea made the enquiry.
However, neither Barcelona's board nor the player himself had any interest in accepting it.
As such, Messi stayed where he is and now looks to be back to his best under Luis Enrique.
Chelsea settled for Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa instead, and took Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas for good measure.
