Jürgen Klopp will leave Borussia Dortmund post at end of the season

Jügen Klopp has confirmed he will leave his position as Borussia Dortmund manager at the end of the season.

Rumours circulated on Wednesday morning that the 47-year-old was set to call time on his seven-year spell in charge of the Bundesliga club, with a press conference confirming the news later in the day.

Klopp's contract was due to run until 2018, but the club have agreed to release him from it in the summer.

"I'm not tired," he said after announcing his decision. "And I have not had contact with another club. I don't play to take a year off, either.

"I have always said that in any moment where I don't believe I am the perfect coach for this extraordinary club, I will say so.

"The decision is the right one. This club deserves to be coached from the 100 percent right manager."

Klopp has won the Bundesliga twice during his time in charge of the club, while he also took them to the Champions League final in 2013.

They are 10th this season, though, and were knocked out of Europe by Juventus.

Mario Götze and Robert Lewandowski have left the club during Klopp's tenure and he referred to their departures as a reason for making this announcement now.

"I chose this time to announce it because in the last few years some player decisions were made late and there was no time to react," he added.

There is likely to be a handful of clubs interested in acquiring his services. Manchester City have been strongly linked with him, while other Premier League clubs are also potential destinations.
