Borussia Dortmund confirm Ilkay Gundogan will not renew his contract
Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Ilkay Gundogan has decided he will not renew his contract with the Bundesliga club beyond its 2016 end date.
They wrote in a press release: "Borussia Dortmund and the midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will not continue beyong June 30, 2016. Ilkay has decided not to renew his contract."
Gundogan is interesting half of Europe and the German side may be tempted to sell him this summer.
The alternative would be to lose him for free when his contract expires next year.
Among those wanting to sign the 24-year-old are Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Real Madrid.
The German international has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, but he has been healthy for a while now and has been a regular in Jürgen Klopp's side.
