Xavi ready to swap Barcelona for New York City

Xavi Hernandez's pending departure from Barcelona could be finalised this week.

The most successful player in the club's history is expected to sign for Major League Soccer (MLS) side New York City - a team associated with Manchester City - where he will be reunited with David Villa.

Barça and the player's agents have been working on the final touches to enable him to complete his exit.

New York, Xavi and Barça expect everything to be done and dusted before Thursday, the day in which the Spanish internationals are scheduled to return to training with the Blaugrana.

To a certain extent, it seems that Thursday will be "D-Day" in the future of Xavi; the day in which everything should be closed off.

This is how Barça and Xavi want it to happen now the player has made his mind up - both parties have handled the situation with elegance and prudence.

For their part, Barcelona have repeated on several occasions that "Xavi has earned the right to choose his own future", while Luis Enrique has also had several conversations with 34-year-old to dig deeper into the situation.

The only remaining things for the player and the club to discuss are the final agreements and a future game for Xavi to say goodbye, which will act as a homage to one of the greatest players in the history of the Blaugrana.

Xavi will sign a three-year deal with New York City and the agreement should be announced relatively soon.
