The reason Arda Turan wants to stay at Barça

Arda Turan is on the market but refuses to open negotiations in order to orchestrate a move away from Barça.

His representative takes calls from potential suitors across Europe and the answer is simple: "Arda wants to stay and win the Champions League". This is the message that the 29-year-old has passed on himself to coach Luis Enrique and thus close the exit door from the Camp Nou.

Arda believes there's still time to turn around the dire situation that saw him endure a poor debut season for the club - even though he only played half of the 2015/16 campaign - and become an important player for the Blaugrana.

His performances were woeful last season and his place in the pecking order has been threatened by the arrival of Denis Suarez, in addition to the current squad members Andres Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic and Rafinha, all of whom compete for the same position in midfield.

Sergi Roberto is also an option, although he could be deployed more as a right-back given Dani Alves' departure to Juventus.

Arda doesn't want to rush his choices, but his patience isn't infinite. If he becomes resigned to a lower squad role than what he previously occupied then his attitude will surely change and he'll have to negotiate a transfer.

The former Atletico Madrid player would like a team in the Champions League and that will challenge for the trophy each season. Borussia Dortmund are one that fits that criteria, but also know they're in a lesser position when it comes seriously contending for Europe's elite competition.
