Surprise! Neymar wins Barcelona's first ever La Liga player of the month award

Neymar has done something no other Barcelona player has ever achieved before - including Lionel Messi - and that is to win the La Liga Player of the Month award.

The LFP decided the Brazilian's blistering November, in which he helped Barcelona smash Real Madrid 4-0, and scored a total of five goals, plus two assists, merited the award.

Somehow, it is the first time Barcelona have ever seen one of their players given the prize, which started in September 2013.

Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa won the first award and the Rojiblancos have won it six times in total, with Diego Godin and Antoine Griezmann winning it twice each, and Koke once.

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo has won it twice, along with his team-mate Karim Benzema, while a host of other players like Celta Vigo's Nolito, Eibar's Borja Baston and Rayo Vallecano's Alberto Bueno, have also picked up the award.

It is suggested that the LFP like handing it out to players from smaller clubs too, to show the league has strength in depth and for it to be more inclusive, but it still beggars belief that Barcelona have not seen a player win it until now.

The closest they got to winning it was Rafinha picking it up while playing for Celta Vigo, in February 2014.
