Official Barcelona website confirms Denis Suarez deal bar 'last minute changes'

The return of Denis Suarez to Barcelona remains immersed in a strange haze, despite the fact sports director Robert Fernandez confirmed in press conference on Thursday the club would exercise their option to bring the player back from Villarreal on July 1. 

Barça have now added to the confusion by publishing an article on their website titled ‘Denis Suarez, two years of growth’. The doubts surface in the first line, where the club say: “Unless there are any last minute changes” Denis will be a Barça player next season. Therefore, despite Robert’s convincing confirmation of the deal, the move remains in the air. 

In reality, the news reflects the fact that the signing of the midfielder is not clear, in contrast to the tone employed by the club’s sporting director. Barça’s option to re-sign Suarez for is for 3.5 million euros on July 1, but before then any club can reach an agreement with Villarreal and sign the player - if he agrees. In that case, Barça would have the right to to match the offer. It’s something which could make the transfer cost more. 

However, Barcelona are aware of Denis’ desire to return to Can Barça and are confident that they will reach an agreement with the player. The 22-year-old expects a gesture from Barça in return and he should receive their contract offer this week, which will be superior to his current earnings.
