The fans of Rosario side Newell's Old Boys are hopeful of seeing Lionel Messi wearing their red-and-black shirt.

They want to see the Barça star retire at the club which he supports.

According to the vice-president of the institution, Cristian D'Amico, it is not an impossible dream.

The director asserts that talks between the club and the Argentina international forward are at an advanced stage.

Though he preferred not to reveal details, he stated:

"We are going to have the pleasure of seeing him play here."

A section of the Argentine club's board is preparing a project to bring Leo Messi back to his hometown team after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

They are trying to finance the deal with the backing of private companies to achieve their dream of seeing Leo Messi grace their Marcelo Bielsa Stadium.

Messi has declared his intention to hang up his boots at Newell's on several occasions, though he has always clarified that he was unsure it would be possible due to the uncertainty of football.
