Television channel La Sexta revealed what happened after the game. Arteta, a member of staff at City now and a former Barcelona player, saw Messi waiting in the tunnel and as he walked past, said to the Argentine: "Who are you waiting for? Go in the dressing room you idiot."
Messi hit back by calling him an imbecile and called to Arteta to come out from where he was hiding. Eventually Kun Aguero calmed the situation down.
