Messi: It wouldn't be honest to promise I'll play in Argentina

Lionel Messi says he can’t make any promises about returning to play football in Argentina, but admitted he would like to play back in his homeland one day.

It’s often been reported he’ll return to Newell’s Old Boys when he finishes playing for Barça, the club he played for before moving to Spain.

”I do not know when it will be,” he said when asked when he would return to South America at an event to unveil his new sponsor, Huawei.

“Maybe it will be in several years, but I don't know what will happen from today or tomorrow.

“I cannot give a date or make a promise that I will return, because it would not be honest.

“Yes, I would love to play in Argentine football and play for Newell's, but it depends on a lot things."

Messi still has plenty of time left at Barcelona, he scored three of the five goals as the Catalan giants progressed in the Champions League with a 5-1 aggregate win over Arsenal.
