Marquinhos and Mathieu deals still possible

Marquinhos and Mathieu deals still possible

Marquinhos and Jeremy Mathieu want to play for Barcelona next season and will do everything they can to ensure it happens.

They understand that it is an opportunity which cannot be missed and, after reaching an agreement with the Catalan club, now need usher their respective clubs, PSG and Valencia, into negotiating their exits.

Strong sources close to both deals have told SPORT that the players have already agreed the length and the econmoics of their contracts at Camp Nou.

Their two clubs continue to play hard ball though.

In the case of Paris Saint-Germain, talks have pretty much stopped at the moment. The French club shut the door and are not keen to re-open it. While they have David Luiz and Thiago Silva, they also understand they need Marquinhos for the future.

However the young Brazilian is aware he won't be a starter in the French capitaland is keen to move to Barcelona, where he believes he will play more.

Barca are desperate for a central defender and an opportunities like this don't often arise.

For now though, the only change in PSG's mind will occur if they recieve a bid which is so high they would be silly to reject it - something more than the €32million they paid Roma for the defender in 2013.

Marquinhos has already began pre-season with his current club and, on Tuesday, played in a friendly against Hamburg.

ONLY THE CLAUSE

The case of Mathieu is similar. The player is won round to the idea of playing the next few seasons dressed in Barca's colours, but Valencia are not up for negotiating.

At the moment, it seems the only possibility of a trasfer is if Barca pay his €20million release clause.

The French defender, according to his representatives, is annoyed with the attitude being shown by Los Che. He considers because of his age, 30, and the fact he has spent five years at the club, he is entitled to leave in one last big move.

Valencia don't have enough defenders to allow him to leave though, hence why they point to his clause time after time.

Mathieu is now training with the club again, but with the market open for more than a month for, the doors are still not definitely closed.
