The Manchester United manager says the signing of Barcelona's star player is not viable

He says that although Messi has years left at the top, Neymar will be his eventual replacement

Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho says that signing Neymar at the moment is “impossible”. The Red Devils have trying to persuade the forward to leave Barcelona—he is an obsession for Mourinho.

Speaking to ESPN Brazil, the Portuguese coach highlighted the difficulties in signing the forward. “A club like Barcelona cannot lose, and will not lose, a player like Neymar,” he said. “Although Messi is still young, with years ahead of him, Neymar is set to be his successor, Barcelona’s great player in the era after Messi.”

The Portuguese coach has been trying to convince Neymar that he can step out of Messi’s shadow at Old Trafford.

“When I think about signing him, I see that it’s a bit like trying to open a safe, impossible,” Mourinho added. “I always try to be objective and pragmatic with the clubs. Asking for Neymar is absurd.”

However if Manchester United pay the 200 million euro release clause the Brazilian has installed in his deal, they can discuss the issue with the player, although convincing him to leave Barcelona will be tough. Sources acting on behalf of United have claimed the club are willing to do so.
