Injured star Lionel Messi "doesn't look after himself"

An important figure at the Argentine Football Association does not think the Barcelona star takes care of himself

Jorge Miadosqui, Argentina's national team secretary, spoke about Lionel Messi's injury absence from the upcoming Russia World Cup qualifiers. He said that "he doesn't look after himself because he always wants to play". However, he also said "you have to be grateful to the players who come and play for the national team because they do it for the shirt, for glory".

Messi's absence for the games against Peru and Paraguay is a big topic in Argentina. Miadosqui said: "We all want him to be in this team, but you have to believe that you can get good results without him. We have great players to do that and we have to be calm.

"I think that the national team looks after players in the best way. We sent the doctor for Augusto Fernandez's operation, and he went to look at Messi. We have to look after all the national team's players."
